For me, the biggest distinction between a side hustle and an asset is scale. Can you create more cash flow by generating scale instead of putting in more hours? Uber is a great way to add side income, but you can only drive one car at a time. Getting out of the rat race will require you to build income generating assets that are scalable.

The only truly “passive” income is investing. Investing is when you leverage your money instead of your time. But, what I like to think of as time-leveraged assets will allow you to scale your income past your hours worked.
